National Day of Service 2025

The National Day of Service on Patriots Day honors 9/11 by uniting Americans in volunteer service at cemeteries, cleaning headstones, and remembering the sacrifice of Veterans and first responders.

These courageous men and women who have donned the uniform did not do it for the praise or the accolades. They did it because they answered the call to duty, and they selflessly and heroically served our nation

Independence Day Parade

Independence Day On July 4, 1776, the signers of the Declaration of Independence boldly asserted that all are "created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Voice of Democracy

The Veteran of Foreign War (VFW) is proud to present the Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program. The scholarship is open to students in grades 9-12 who are enrolled in a public, private or parochial high school or home study program.

VFW’s Patriot’s Pen

Patriot's Pen. Each year more than 132,000 students in grades 6-8 enter the VFW’s Patriot’s Pen youth essay contest. The national first-place winner wins $5,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Buddy Poppies

The VFW was the first veterans’ organization to adopt the poppy and develop a national distribution campaign. For more than 75 years, the VFW’s Buddy Poppy program has raised millions of dollars in support of veterans’ welfare and the well being of their dependents.

Veteran Outreach

Coming home doesn't mean the battle is over. With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! If you or someone you know is suffering from PTSD, we have people that have shared a similar experience and are ready to help.

Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

Youth Scholarships
The VFW is proud to support our nation's youth through two incredible scholarship programs!
-Voice of Democracy (High School): A premier audio-essay contest with a national first-place award of $35,000.
-Patriot's Pen (Middle School): A dynamic essay competition offering a national top prize of $5,000.

These scholarships give students a chance to share their voices, express their patriotism, and make an impact while earning support for their education.
