In conjunction with our Partners VFW Post 1956 kicked off the VFW Inaugural Day of Service. The Paloma Valley High School NJROTC https://www.pvhs.puhsd.org/3/Content2/pvhs-njrotc and Boy Scouts Troops 374 and Troop 584 https://www.scouting.org/ Cub Scout Pack 374 https://www.pack374.org/ in partnership with https://www.msjc.edu/veterans/index.html and the City of Menifee https://www.cityofmenifee.us/. Participants painted the home of a Marine Corps veteran on Saturday May 7th 2022, on Ariel Court in Menifee, Ca.
The 1956 Post chose this project for their first VFW Day of Service event because it benefits all three groups involved. Post members get a sense of purpose from helping fellow veterans, the veteran-students feel good knowing they can still serve and go to college at the same time, and the JROTC students benefit by being surrounded by veterans who share past military stories and help prepare them for the journey they are about to embark on after graduating from high school. Surrounded by veterans who share past military stories to help prepare them for the journey they are about to embark on after graduating from high school.
Painting supply's and materials were graciously donated by Home Depot https://www.homedepot.com/ and Lowes https://www.lowes.com/ to help in facilitating a very successful event.

American Indian Veterans Memorial Dedication
VFW Post 1956 is honored to announce the dedication of the American Indian Veterans Memorial at Riverside National Cemetery on Saturday, May 2, 2026. This significant monument pays tribute to Native American, Alaska Native, and Pacific Islander veterans and represents a historic addition to Riverside National Cemetery.
At the center of the memorial stands "The Gift," by artist A. Thomas Schomberg honors 200 years of military service and the enduring sacrifices of American Indian veterans throughout our nation's history.
This project, initiated in 2005, was made possible through years of dedication and broad community support. The VFW Department of California and District 3 VFW Posts were honored to contribute to the realization of this memorial.
We invite members, families, and the community to attend this historic dedication!
Commander Michael Cano
