A Flag for Every Hero

Brennan Leininger and Chris Marteny - 5/25/2022

Next Saturday Post 1956 will once again be holding our Flags For Every Hero ceremony after which Post 1956 will be placing over 250,000 flags to honor those interred at Riverside National Cemetery.

Our guest speaker will be one you won't want to miss.

As we prepare, please keep in mind a few important points:
There is no need to sign up in advance and all ages are welcome.
To maintain consistency no flags will not be passed out until after our Post's ceremony which will conclude on the day of the event at 8:30 am.  As always please be respectful to the volunteers passing out the flags.

The attendance is projected to include allot of  people trying to get in to the cemetery for this event. Parking will be limited and traffic gets extremely congested so please plan accordingly by arriving early and it is advisable to carpool.  Keep in mind some roads are very narrow and will allow one-way traffic only, so be patient and follow the direction of the volunteer traffic coordinators.

Also a reminder, you will most likely be doing a lot of walking we ask you prepare and dress accordingly. If you can, plan to leave your vehicle in the large dirt parking lot near the Medal of Honor Memorial and walk throughout the cemetery.  A map will sent out on Monday detailing the location of where the large dirt parking lot is.
Further suggestions be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water to keep hydrated.

All flags will be provided stationed and be handed out at numerous points throughout the cemetery. We will be signing Community Service volunteer paperwork at the Amphitheater.  If you have children participating in the event ensure they bring any and all necessary paperwork with them to be signed since we do not have the facilities to provide this documentation.

I want to remind everyone that Riverside is the largest national cemetery in the country, recognizing that we are part of this amazing cause.  As we all know paying tribute to those buried at Riverside National Cemetery is truly an honor and great pride should be taken in your participation.  Remember this is a team effort and not designed to be fulfilled by any one individual so feel free to bring family friends etc to help in honoring the fallen hero's.

We pray that it is remembered the value of our contributions are not measured by the number of flags we place but instead by our inclusion of a much larger team and relevance of the hero's buried there.  Accomplishing this is a large feat, it takes a lot of participation by many people like yourselves helping in many different capacities.  Bear in mind everyone's involvement is critical to the success of accomplishing this task and we look forward to seeing everyone out and participating in this honored event.

Lastly, we are trying to compile a list of people/groups that are interested in participating in our ceremony for future events if you would like (or know of someone that would) to sing the national anthem or have a Color Guard team to present the colors, please let us know by sending us a message.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication!
